President's Message

“What good is an idea if it remains an idea? Try. Experiment. Iterate. Fail. Try again. Change the world.”  - Simon Sinek

Wow-Wow-Wow
Many, many thanks to the 30+ ERC members who have been involved in some way with MADDs this month.  One of our core values is service and we certainly checked that box this month!  A huge thank you to Nicole Steirer and Karen Hobson and their committee for their energy and perseverance to come up with these service opportunities, facilitate them, deal with the tweaks that are inevitably needed and attend them…this is what our committees do!  WOW

Ceil, Tony, Nelly, Wade, Anne, and Doug Thank you for all of your time and help to coordinate the day. Thanks to everyone for inviting friends. The kids really seemed to have fun! I hope the clients at Nelly’s group homes enjoy the artistic masterpieces. The Kindness Project was also very thankful.

Make A Difference Day 2021 - 2.0
Make a Difference Day Continues!

The Emmaus Rotary Club continued the Make A Difference Day (MADD) by helping with preparing food for the Allentown Rescue Mission and Turning Point on Saturday morning at the Zion Evangelical Church in Zionsville.  As many as ten Rotarians helped make brownies, sausage and turkey pasta/cheese casseroles.  The Rotarian cooked, baked and washed the dishes.  They discovered that "too many cooks could get along" in one kitchen and share pot holders and produce great meals!  Karen’s car was full for her delivery to the Rescue Mission & Turning Point.

COVID Booster Shots Available!

Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Booster Shots Now Available

Moderna and J&J join Pfizer as authorized COVID-19 booster shots in the U.S.

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) will begin administering booster shots of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines on Monday, Oct. 25, after authorizations this week by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A Pfizer COVID-19 booster shot was authorized in September and is already available at LVHN vaccine clinics.
Scheduling a Moderna or Johnson & Johnson booster can be done starting Monday, Oct. 25. Scheduling is encouraged and can be completed through MyLVHN, our patient portal, or by calling the COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 833-584-6283 (833-LVHN-CVD). The hotline is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Walk-ins also are accepted at LVHN vaccine clinics. Those seeking booster shots should bring their vaccine card to the vaccine clinic so the card can be updated.

LVHN also offers third shots of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.

Visit LVHN.org/booster for more information and FAQs.

In Addition Both WALGREENS and RITEAID are now giving the MODERNA  COVID BOOSTERS to anyone at a high risk job or over 65.

Thanks to Dr. Bob Goehler for the update!

December Is....

DECEMBER is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month

At Rotary, we believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 400 million people in the world can’t afford or don’t have access to basic health care.

Disease results in misery, pain, and poverty for millions of people worldwide. That’s why treating and preventing disease is so important to us. We lead efforts both large and small. We set up temporary clinics, blood donation centers, and training facilities in underserved communities struggling with outbreaks and health care access. We design and build infrastructure that allows doctors, patients, and governments to work together.

Our members combat diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and polio. Prevention is important, which is why we also focus on health education and bringing people routine hearing, vision, and dental care.

District 7430 Covid-19  - New Information
Greetings District 7430:

This communication comes to you from District Governor Bob Hobaugh and COVID-19 Advisor Michael Seidner, MD. We wish to share updated guidelines for Rotary activity in the face of the continuing pandemic from COVID-19. The most important step a Rotarian can take to prevent COVID infection is to become fully vaccinated. Masks are recommended indoors for all Rotarians in areas of “substantial or high transmission” and especially for those who are either not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.  Immunocompromised Rotarians are also urged to wear a mask indoors.  Club Presidents are to report any positive COVID-19 tests of a Rotarian who has participated in the last 14 days in an in-person Rotary event. A Club announcement, tracing and testing should follow any positive test of a Club member in attendance. Presidents, please report such positive tests to both District Governor Bob Hobaugh and Michael Seidner, MD.
Important highlights from the RI May, June, July, and August Board of Directors meetings found at https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference/about-rotary/board-decisions include: “To better guide Rotarians in their Rotary-related travel as pandemic threats continue to change and more communities adjust their pandemic restrictions, and to ensure the safety of all participants in Rotary programs, meetings, and events, the Board made several amendments to its travel policy, agreeing that virtual or hybrid meetings should continue to be implemented. The RI Board also “reaffirmed its policy that no in-person Rotary meeting or event shall be mandatory for any participant who may feel uncomfortable attending because of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Health (Health Department) updates its statistics regarding COVID-19 case incidence and vaccination status daily.  Fortunately, cases of COVID-19 are falling as more people become vaccinated.  Unvaccinated individuals continue to be at the highest risk for hospitalization and death. COVID-19 in vaccinated individuals tends to be milder and in many cases hospitalization is not required.  Individuals testing positive should isolate for two weeks and participate in contact tracing. Check the Pennsylvania Department of Health website for more updates at https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx.
Please stay current with your individual county’s transmission rate by checking the Pennsylvania Department of Health Early Warning Dashboard located at: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx
Thank you for your attention and commitment to keeping yourselves, your clubs, and the public safe during the ongoing evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. As with Polio, please advocate for vaccinations to not only keep individuals safe but our worldwide community!
